The 68th Field Artillery Brigade located in Providence, Rhode Island consisted of the 103rd Field Artillery Regiment in Providence, the 192nd Field Artillery Regiment in Connecticut, and the 152nd Field Artillery Regiment in Maine. The Japanese defenses of the island were such that the 43d bore the brunt of the fighting in securing positions on Lingayen Gulf. October 11, 1864, the men entitled to be discharged were mustered out at Albany; the regiment, however, was continued in service, but, September 22d, consolidated into five companies, A, B, C, D and E; Company A being formed of Companies A and D; B of B and H; C of C and F; D of G and K, and E of E and I. It shared in the final assault April 2, 1865, in the battle of Sailor's creek, and was present at the surrender of Lee's Army at Appomattox.
